Junior Domestic Programs - FAQs
Our Club plays in the Knox Basketball Competition. The Competition, including game fixtures, is managed by Knox.
When do teams play?
Under 8s to Under 16s play on a Saturday. Younger teams start early in the day with older teams playing in the late afternoon/early evening.
Under 19s and Under 23s play on a Sunday evening.
Where are games played?
Games are played at stadiums in the Knox area. This includes the State Basketball Centre, Fairhills High School, Rowville Secondary College Eastern Campus, Rowville Community Centre, and other external venues.
When is the basketball season?
We play two seasons each year - Summer (Term 4 and Term 1) and Winter (Term 2 and Term 3).
How do I know which age group my child will be in?
Age groups are determined each season by the age of your child at the specified cutoff date.
The cutoff date for Summer is 31st July and for Winter is 31st December.
For example, if your child turns 12 before 31st July, they will play in the Under 14 competition for the Summer season.
How can I join Wasps?
Registrations for the upcoming season usually open in August (for Summer season) and February (for Winter season). We will advertise specific dates on our website and our Facebook page. Get in touch with us at registrations.waspsbb@gmail.com to express your interest before registering. We need to make sure we know how many players will be registering for the season to ensure we have enough space in our teams.
When and where is training?
All teams from Under 8s to Under 16s have one training session a week. Our teams currently train on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday across a number of venues (State Basketball Centre, Fairhills High School, Waverley Christian College, and Knox Central Primary School).
The training day and time is determined based on the availability of the volunteer coach and courts. Training times will be advised at the time teams are released and unfortunately cannot be confirmed any earlier.
How are teams selected?
Our teams are selected according to skill level, team fit, teamwork, and attitude at games and at training.
Our Coordinators and Team Selectors watch all of our teams play throughout the season so they have a good idea of the skill of our players. When joining as a new player, our Coordinators will speak to you further to determine the best fit for your child.
